“Thanksgiving and Miracles”

“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High;” Psalms 92:1 KJV

As we look to our heritage as Americans we can but reverently remember those whose sacrifices and lives paved the way for our abundance.  The birth of our nation was a miracle!  --A blessing bestowed by the hand of God and the willing blood of our fathers.  This Thanksgiving remember, remember and be thankful.

When the Constitution was finally signed a woman asked Benjamin Franklin, “What have you given us?”  He replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

I fear, just as in the old movies about the Roman Empire that our “Republic” is mostly a memory. The things the Founders feared most have come to pass. The real division of power between the states and the federal government is just an illusion.  The separation of powers is routinely usurped by one branch over another.  The only thing that is growing in this declining nation is government, debt and sin.

We as a nation have not revered the author of our Liberty, Jesus Christ, as we should. But, God is merciful and we can even in the face of daily decline, see His miracles in our lives as we seek Him faithfully. We can make a difference in the lives of others and do as George Washington said, “Raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair.”

That is what Nevada Families/Eagle Forum has tried to do these many years. Although God has given us many victories, often we have only been able to speak the truth and raise the standard.

In 2004, I took a second job, besides running Eagle Forum, in order to keep the Eagle Forum office open.  I came to realize that I would not be able to keep the Eagle Forum office open in a declining economy.  I felt it was important to continue the work. One way to do this was to reduce expenses by closing the office.  I feel the Lord, enabled me to move to Elko so I could afford a home large enough to have an Eagle Forum office at home. And, as an answer to prayer a generous Eagle Forum member has offered me a place to stay in Carson City during the Legislature every other year.

Dear Friends—I have done all I can to continue the work of Nevada Families/Eagle Forum for Life, Liberty and Family. I know that these are difficult economic times and they are not likely to get much better, but if our work is to continue I must ask for your financial support.  We are especially in need of continuing monthly support.  After my brother Dan died we had many who came forward on a monthly basis to support our work.  Now, that monthly support has dwindled to the dedicated few.  We need your continuing financial help.  Just a $10 donation a month on a consistent basis can make a difference.  You can even do it by credit card for convenience sake.

Please consider a renewed pledge to Nevada Families/Eagle Forum.  Know that for over 30 years I have prayerfully and carefully managed the resources of Eagle Forum, so that after 5—10—15—20 and 30 years, we are still here working for Life, Liberty and Family.  That consistency gives us strength, continuity, power and influence.

I have cut expenses as much as I can.  Please remember us at this Thanksgiving time and as we move into the New Year.  God blessed us with Liberty—we have a responsibility to do whatever we can to keep that blessing of liberty for the coming generations.  God has greatly blessed my life, just to be called to this work!

Happy Thanksgiving! Janine Hansen
