Support: SB196 Petition “Single Subject Rule”
Hearing: TODAY, Tuesday, March 17, 1:30pm, Senate Legislative Operations and Elections, 2149
Vote will take place at a later meeting.
The Single Subject Rule, which restricts what petitions can include, is not part of the Nevada Constitution, but was passed by the Legislature in an effort to restrict such petitions as Bob Beers TASC petition on taxes and spending. The “Single Subject Rule” as it applies to legislation passed by the Legislature is very broad, however, as it applies to petitions it is very narrow and restrictive. This bill broadens the single subject rule as it applies to petitions to make it less restricted, similar to the rule for the Legislature. This is good for the people and the petitioning process!
MESSAGE: Vote YES on SB196 the “single subject rule” on petitions. The people should not have a more restrictive “single subject rule” than the Legislature.
