Thanksgiving Admonition by George Washington
“It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor.” George Washington
It is alarming when we consider how the American nation has abandoned this admonition by the Father of our Country. The victories won by our Founding Fathers were based on their willingness to pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. Because of this God honored their sacrifice and blessed them with eventual, but not immediate victory. If we are to Take Back America can we expect to do less?

On December 23, 1776 General Washington knew he could not wait. His troops were not only demoralized, hungry, and ill-equipped, but most of them would soon be leaving. He formed his bedraggled Americans into ranks and had them listen to a stirring message written by Thomas Paine. It included these famous and prophetic words.
“These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”
It usually takes more than mere words to arouse and inspire beaten soldiers, but these lines of Thomas Paine somehow had their impact on Washington’s shivering, hungry, threadbare patriots. Two nights later they crossed the Delaware. The weather was so cold two of them froze to death. Nevertheless, they caught the British mercenaries completely off guard the morning after Christmas day. Washington captured the whole British contingent of a thousand Hessians without a single American being killed.
British General Howe furious over what had happened ordered Cornwallis at Princeton to make the quick, ten-mile march to Trenton and destroy Washington. It was miserable weather, but Cornwallis moved south with 5,500 Redcoats. He arrived at night with his men tired and cold from the long march. Cornwallis rejoiced when he saw the American campfires burning near the river because this meant Washington was in a trap with his back to the water. He decided to rest and attack the next morning. However, by morning there was no Washington nor any American army along the banks of the Delaware. During the night Washington had maneuvered around Cornwallis and marched his men all night to attack Princeton, which Cornwallis had just left!
Nevertheless, there was some furious fighting at Princeton. Cornwallis had left behind a rear guard of 1,200 men, but Washington finally occupied the town. Excerpt: The Making of America by W. Cleon Skousen

“PERSONHOOD” INITIATIVE: HELPFUL OR HARMFUL?

When a "personhood" referendum is
on the ballot, conservative candidates lose. In Colorado in 2008, the personhood
referendum received only 26.5% of the vote and conservative Marilyn Musgrave, an
incumbent, lost by the shocking margin of 56-44%. To achieve even that, she had
to persuade more than a quarter of the people who voted against the personhood
referendum to cross over and vote for her. She did well to attract that many
votes, and no conservative is likely to do better. Congressman Bob Schaffer, for
example, fared even worse, winning only 42.5% of the vote for an open U.S.
Senate seat in Colorado.
These devastating results have been seen in other elections. Jim Talent
lost the U.S. Senate seat in 2006 with the stem cell referendum on the Missouri
ballot. Many seats have been lost in South Dakota due to misguided pro-life
referenda there.
Many hurtful arguments and videos against the personhood referendum shoot
down pro-life referenda. The pro-aborts out-spend pro-lifers by a factor of ten,
ensuring their defeat every time. In 20 years, pro-life referenda have never won
(unless linked to a tax issue). The pro-life movement is best served by electing
pro-life candidates.
There is a movement starting to put a personhood referendum on the ballot
in Missouri, which will cost our candidates between 5 and 10% of the vote on
Election Day.
In Florida, the Catholic Church just unanimously opposed the personhood
referendum and prohibited the collection of signatures for it in local churches.
The Personhood Initiative Petition has been filed with the Nevada Secretary of State. We invite other Pro Life organizations and individuals to join us in this educational effort to alert people in Nevada to the serious problems inherent in the Personhood Initiative. Personhood Initiative Threatens Pro-Life Future
We believe in the fundamental right to life for ourselves and our posterity--born and unborn, and the protection of that right under law.
We believe that advancements in science, such as DNA, and medicine, easily visible with sonograms, make the personhood of the unborn a reality recognizable to all.
We believe that the courts are the greatest threat to the unalienable right to life of the unborn. Roe v Wade has brought about the wholesale killing of the innocent unborn. We oppose abortion and support the right to life of the unborn.
Unfortunately, we believe the “Personhood” initiative petition filed in Nevada with good intent will not protect the unborn or stop abortion. It is so vague and general that it may not even apply to abortion at all.
In addition, a state personhood amendment cannot overturn Roe v Wade. This amendment will harm the Pro-Life movement by giving pro-abortion courts more power to decide all matters relating to abortion, such as parental notification, informed consent, and taxpayer funding of abortion. These matters should be decided by the elected representatives of the people--state legislatures and Congress, not the unelected courts.
Therefore, we the undersigned Pro-Life organizations and individuals do not and cannot support Nevada’s Personhood Initiative. We appreciate the sentiments of those filing the measure, but recognize that it will not protect the unborn. It will end up giving unlimited power to the courts to perpetuate and expand the disastrous effects of Roe v Wade and will interfere further with any legislative efforts to stop abortion.
We choose life. Therefore, we the undersigned oppose the Nevada Personhood Initiative.
