Honest News on the Economy:

The NY Federal Reserve: 14% of US. Households Experience Food Insecurity

Martin Armstrong, Armstrong Economics, May 29, 2026

The government keeps telling people the economy is strong because the stock market keeps making new highs. That is the great deception behind every bubble throughout history. Wall Street is not Main Street. You can have record highs in financial assets while society underneath is quietly rotting in real time.

The New York Federal Reserve now reports that 14% of American households are struggling with food insecurity. For families with children, the number rises to 17.5%. That means millions of Americans are literally worried about whether they can afford enough food while politicians stand in Washington congratulating themselves over manipulated statistics.

This is the direct result of monetary policy and the destruction of purchasing power. They printed trillions after 2020 and inflated everything. Housing exploded. Rent exploded. Insurance exploded. Food exploded. The people who owned assets got richer while the working class got trapped trying to survive inflation.

Meanwhile, household debt has surged above $18 trillion. Credit card balances are above $1.2 trillion. Americans are borrowing money just to maintain basic living standards. That is never sustainable historically. Rome did the same thing by debasing the currency until the middle class collapsed under rising costs. Weimar Germany also saw financial assets rise while ordinary citizens watched purchasing power evaporate.

The younger generation has been absolutely destroyed financially. In many cities rent now consumes nearly half of take-home pay. Home ownership has become almost unattainable for millions. Food prices remain dramatically above pre-2020 levels. Families are paying 30%, 40%, even 50% more for necessities than just a few years ago while wages never remotely kept pace.

This is why I have warned that the real crisis would not simply be inflation itself but the collapse in living standards. Governments always manipulate statistics to hide reality. They change CPI (Consumer Price Index) formulas, adjust baskets, and claim inflation is “cooling,” but people know the truth every time they walk into a grocery store.

This is also why civil unrest rises during the later stages of debt crises historically. The average person eventually realizes the system no longer works for them, while the financial elite continue accumulating wealth through asset inflation. The K-shaped economy becomes politically dangerous because one side of society feels abandoned entirely.

The French Revolution was not caused because people suddenly hated the aristocracy overnight. It was bread prices, hunger. It was watching elites continue living comfortably while ordinary families could no longer survive rising costs. History always repeats because human nature never changes.(

The frightening part is that this is happening before the real sovereign debt crisis even begins. Governments worldwide are drowning in debt and they cannot raise rates forever without detonating the system. So they are trapped. Either they continue inflating the currency slowly to manage the debt, or they trigger a deflationary collapse.

Politicians will always choose inflation because it delays the pain politically. That means the middle class continues getting squeezed while the divide between financial wealth and real economic survival grows wider.

People do not eat stock portfolios. They eat food. They pay rent. They pay utilities. They buy gasoline. That is where the real economy is collapsing.

Senior Vice President of Exxon

Sounds Warning on Oil, Gasoline, Diesel, and Jet Fuel

Neil Chapman, Senior Vice-President of Exxon, spoke on May 28th, at the Sanford Bernstein Strategic Decisions Conference.

“Commercial inventories of crude oil…petroleum, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, they’ve all run down. And the running down (of) those inventories has (been) mitigated or offset …by the release of strategic petroleum reserves, (from) most of the Western countries. All of that has mitigated (lessened) the impact…

“We’re approaching unheard of inventory levels. I mean, really, really low levels. You can debate whether that’s going to hit those really low levels in two weeks or three weeks. Once you get to that point, then you’ll see the price (of crude oil) will shoot up. Once you get to that really low inventory level, (crude oil will shoot) up to $150-$160 (a barrel).

“The models would tell you that. And then, what happens is, when the price gets to a certain level, demand destruction brings it back into balance. Prices go so high, it becomes unaffordable. And that’s what happens. And so we’re at that level right now.

“And I think crude (oil) being in this sort of $90 to $110 for the last…six weeks, has really been mitigated (kept at that price) by running down inventories. It can’t last forever. So we’ll see what happens. And predicting this and the exact timing, it’s always a challenge. But that’s the way we see the picture.” End quote

The bottom line is that even if there’s an agreement with Iran and the Strait of Hormuz is opened, it will take many months and in some cases years, where the infrastructure has been destroyed, for the world-wide oil supply chain to normalize.

Diesel is critical for farms, ranches, train and truck transportation, which produce and move our food across the country. This spike in oil prices could very well result in empty store shelves.  We also face critical shortages of wheat. Farmers have chosen, because of the prices of diesel, fertilizer and drought, not to plant some 37% of the wheat crop. U.S. beef cattle inventory is at a 75-year low. Have you taken action to protect your family?

Data Centers, AI, and Potential Problems

We all have many questions about Data Centers and AI and how they will affect our lives. Will they benefit the American people or just the big corporations like Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google, and CTS?  In reading numerous articles and listening to several interviews, the questions remain.

Why is the U.S. in a race to build more Data Centers than any other country? The answer came in an interview with Tucker Carlson and Kevin O’Leary. The U.S. is really in a race with China. The U.S. currently has 4,287 and China has 369. Hum? These Data Centers are really a cooperative project between the Federal Government and Big Tech. They will benefit Big Tach and the military and who else? No one in the government or big tech have even ventured any explanation of how these will benefit the American people.

China is good at many things but freedom is not one of them. The United States was built with the understanding that our rights come from God not government. These data centers will facilitate the continual expansion of the digital control grid, are a huge threat to our privacy, our individual liberties and our very humanity.

Data Center issues also include power, water, land, noise, health, revenue, privacy, and local economies,

President Trump has tried to address the concerns about electric power costs going up with Data Centers. The goal of the Proclamation 11014 Ratepayer Protection Pledge was:

To remove consumer's concerns that the huge AI data centers being built will force rate increases upon normal consumers. These AI data center companies "guarantee" they will build, bring, or buy the resources for their electricity needs as well as pay for the new infrastructure necessary to deliver said power. In addition, these companies agree to invest in local communities and contribute to a more reliable grid overall in the community.

However, in Data Center service areas consumer have seen their rates go up.

All News Pipeline writes: “On October 17, 2025, the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy investigated power and water use by existing Data Centers and found a mid-sized Data Center consumes as much water as a small town and larger ones consume as much as a city of 50,000 people. Newer AI centers use as much electricity as 100,000 homes (or more). The Data Center planned for Wyoming will use more electricity than every home in the state combined.”

All News Pipeline continues: Another “issue with Data Centers is Land. They cover hundreds of acres using steel, concrete, and paved surfaces destroying land that used to be farms, forest, or housing. Not only that, but they will need permanent supply routes (roads, airports, trains, etc.). These facilities require 500-800 acres of land with hyperscale facilities exceeding 1,000 acres (1.6 square miles). Besides sheer acreage, they need to be close to powerplants, water supplies, and, of course, fiber internet connections.”

Another issue was explored by a Wine Press article. How will these Data Centers be paid for?  Larry Fink, World Economic Forum co-chair and Black Rock CEO, revealed in a speech in Texas where some of the Trillions of dollars will come from to build the datacenters and new power grid in Texas and the United States: retirement and savings accounts. Fink lamented that many Americans want to keep their money in a bank account and save it for a rainy day, but urges Americans to think of the bigger picture and more readiness to fund direct investment in U.S. infrastructure.

There remain many unanswered questions concerning Data Centers and AI. We must all be vigilant in protecting our future and not just accept without question Big Tech Data Centers.

Celebrate June as Fidelity Month

This Congress, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced a resolution to designate June as Fidelity Month for the purpose of rededicating the United States to the values of faith, family, and patriotism (S.Res. 277). The resolution acknowledges that Americans have placed less importance on these principles, which has corresponded with the “rise in crime, drug abuse, alienation, and family disintegration.” Sen. Lee issued this statement:

America’s success hinges on the values of faith, family, and patriotism. Celebrating Fidelity Month this June, we stand against a tide of moral relativism, a culture which increasingly revolves around serving one’s self, rather than our duty to others. Loving families and faithful marriages must be a guiding star for our society and a cornerstone of our communities.”

Other members of Congress are offering alternatives to Pride Month. Representative Mary Miller (R-IL) plans to reintroduce a resolution to declare June as “Family Month.” Her resolution acknowledges the critical role that married mothers and fathers play in rearing children. The language also discourages the delaying of marriage, divorce, and legislative policies that encourage cohabitation or welfare while penalizing married couples through taxes.

Last year, she penned an op-ed in the Daily Wire saying: Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Pride leads to destruction, and nowhere is that more clear than in the abandonment of the family. Pride in rebellion against God’s design for marriage, sex, and parenthood will only bring further harm to our country, our culture, and our children…”

“For this reason, June should be recognized as Family Month, a time to celebrate, strengthen, and support the American family. While the Left uses June to glorify pride in sexual identity and gender confusion, we must reclaim this month to honor what truly sustains our nation: mothers and fathers raising children in loving homes.”    www.eagleforum.org
